This well illustrated field guide is intended to give coverage of the commonly encountered reef fishes found along the northern or Pacific Ocean side New Guinea. Because of the extended pelagic larval stages of most reef fishes, they tend to be dispersed over wide areas. Therefore, this book will also prove useful for southern New Guinea and a huge surrounding region that includes northern Australia, Indonesia, and the islands of Melanesia and Micronesia.
Excluded from coverage are those species that normally dwell below the usual depth range of most SCUBA divers (i.e. greater than 30-40 metres) and alsp purely pelagic species such as the tunas, mackerals, and billfishes.
